The files and instructions are in the download links. As my S6 uses MMI 2G, I couldn't really show how to do the update with the SD card. My point was that it is essentially the same processes, when it comes to updating, the only difference being the update medium used. :) Dealers vary but its around that. Basically there are 3 actions. 1-Sat Nav needs to be activated/enabled in your car (this is around @250) 2- Then an SD Card needs to be bought, 3- then this SD Card has to be activated and paired to the car. If you have Sat Nav activated in the car then you only need an SD Card with maps.

All you need to do is replace the old nav cd with the new one (you may need to have the engine turned on for the cd to release). On my '08 Q7, the nav unit is next to the spare tire.

Re: Sat Nav MMI not working. I had that problem yesterday. I had fixed a fault with my mmi system but satnav showed me as 30 miles away. You can either have a look and see in the settings if you are in demo mode or like my problem have a look at the back of the dvd drive in the boot.
